As part of the DiscoverEU initiative, a new competition was launched on November 7, which runs until 12:00 noon on November 28, 2019. This initiative offers the opportunity for young people to travel Europe, mainly by train (with the exception of participants living in islands or remote areas) and discover the beautiful landscapes of Europe and the diversity of its cities. Young people can apply during the two rounds of applications that take place each year.
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- must be born between January 1 and December 31, 2001 (including those dates)
- must have the nationality of one of the Member States of the European Union at the time the award decision is taken
- they must enter the correct ID or passport number on the online application form.
After that, it will be necessary to answer the quiz questions (unless they are applying as a group member).
The DiscoverEU initiative offers eighteen-year-old EU citizens the opportunity to travel on a European Union freedom of journey, explore Europe's diversity, learn about Europe's cultural heritage and history, and connect with other young people across Europe. In addition, this initiative helps young people develop skills that will be important to them in the future, such as independence, confidence and openness to other cultures.
Selected participants will be able to travel for a period of at least one and a maximum of 30 days from 1 April to 31 October 2020.
Participants with disabilities or a health problem that makes it difficult for them to travel will receive support and assistance to enable them to participate in the DiscoverEU initiative.
